Neighborhood Watch: Neighborhood Watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the country, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer. Rutherford’s Neighborhood Watch program has been effectively deterring unwelcome or suspicious behavior for over 40 years.
CERT: trained volunteers can assist others in their community following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available to help.
Aging In Place: this new committee is helping Rutherford organize resources and volunteers to support the ability to live in one’s own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level
Fall Festival: A neighborhood tradition bringing families together for games, goodies and dress-up fun
National Night Out: is a community-police awareness-raising event in the United States, held the first Tuesday of August. Held at our community pool and attended by neighbors, community leaders, firefighters and police with their big shiny machines, the event is meant to increase awareness about safety programs in communities, such as Slow Down, We Live Here, Neighborhood Watch. It’s also just a great time to visit with neighbors, eat too much ice cream, explore fire trucks and police cars, and enjoy a swim.
Yard Sale: Each May we widely advertise our community yard sale, providing signage and maps, for a great turnout and opportunity to do some profitable Spring cleaning.
Santa Visits for Toys for Tots: Jolly volunteers in red suit and beard will schedule a visit to your home to visit with your children and receive their donations of new toys for Toys for Tots.
Entrance Median Beautification: Volunteers keep our official welcome sign and median looking fresh and inviting.
Livable Neighborhood Action Group: Volunteers participate in community–enhancing activities focused on environment and sustainability.
Native Plants community garden: Volunteers develop and maintain an area in front of the pool which supports native plants and their natural pollinators.
The Rutherford Directory: Published bi-annually, where you can locate friends and neighbors, find merchant and vendor information, and seek youth services like snow-shoveling, pet-sitting, etc. Includes a helpful map of the Rutherford community, with a block-by-block breakdown.
Newsletter: The RCA newsletter, published 4 times each year and delivered by our volunteer block captains, is filled with helpful information about the community, interesting articles, upcoming events, and local advertising.
Website: A great way to find out about Rutherford Community and how to get involved!
Braddock District Representative: Attends monthly Braddock District Council meetings and reports back to the RCA Board and community
Area Vice Presidents and Block Captains assist in communication to every neighbor, including distribution of newsletters and directories and welcoming new neighbors.
Signboard committee: Responsible for erecting notification signs at community entrancepoints to notify community about upcoming events.
Board member: Elected by the community, board members serve 2-year terms and direct volunteer activities, manage the budget, and address community concerns according to the articles of incorporation and bylaws.
Yahoo Group message board: The official digital communication tool for RCA has volunteer moderators and is a great way to keep up with events, opportunities, local recommendations and referrals, and all the latest neighborhood news.
Playgroup/Moms Group: An opportunity to meet other moms and create opportunities for your little ones to begin neighborly friendships.
